SYMPTOMS

Incontinence, defined as the involuntary passage of urine, can have a significant detrimental effect on patients’ quality of life. It is usually caused by either an overactive bladder or a weakness in the pelvic floor.

A detailed history and careful examination in clinic will usually provide insight into the underlying cause of any incontinence. Urine flow tests, urine testing and a post-void bladder scan at the time of your initial appointment help to ascertain this. Sometimes additional tests such as an ultrasound of your kidneys and bladder, flexible cystoscopy or urodynamic investigations may also be required.
